Avery Shenfeld

Avery Shenfeld

Avery Shenfeld is Managing Director and Chief Economist of CIBC World Markets Inc. He has been with CIBC since 1993 and is widely recognized as one of Canada’s leading economists for his perceptive analysis and insight on economic developments and their implications for financial markets.

Mr. Shenfeld is a six time winner of the Dow Jones Market Watch award for most accurate US forecaster, and is the top ranked economist in Canada among institutional equity investors.

Mr. Shenfeld’s prior background includes experience in management consulting. He was on the economics faculty at the University of Toronto and in the summer program at Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. He has addressed numerous business groups and has been quoted in the media in the United States, Canada, Asia and Europe.

Mr. Shenfeld holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard University.

Beata Caranci

For more than 17 years, Beata Caranci has conducted analysis on global economies and financial markets. As the Chief Economist and Senior Vice President for TD Bank Group, she leads a dynamic team of 15 economists who deliver on both the stress testing requirements of TD Bank and forecasts for the Canadian, U.S., and global economies.

A sought-after and respected commentator, Beata travels across North America speaking with TD clients about economic and financial trends. She is also frequently asked to provide her perspective on breaking macroeconomic and financial issues for major media outlets, including CBC, BNN, Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal and CNN.

Beata is a strong advocate for TD Bank’s diversity initiatives. With a personal interest in women’s issues, Beata has written several reports on the challenges and opportunities faced by women in the workplace. Her research report, “Get on Board Corporate Canada,” helped influence the Ontario Securities Commission’s rule amendments on disclosure of women on boards and in senior management.

Beata holds a Master’s Degree in Business Economics. Prior to joining TD, she worked nearly four years on a trading floor providing economic analysis to foreign exchange, money
market and bond desks.

Craig Wright

Craig Wright

As chief economist, Craig leads a team of economists providing economic, fixed income and foreign exchange research to RBC clients. Craig is a regular contributor to a number of RBC publications and is a key player in delivering economic analysis to clients and the media through the Economic Department’s regular economic briefings.

A graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Toronto, Craig was appointed Chief Economist in 2001 having joined RBC in 1994 after working at another financial institution for seven years. Craig is a participant in a number of the key RBC internal committees and is a member of the CD Howe Monetary Policy Council, Wilfrid Laurier School of Business and Economic Dean’s Advisory Council and the British Columbia Economic Forecast Council.

Craig and his wife Susan live in Toronto with their three children Emily, Bradley and Jacob.

Douglas Porter

Douglas Porter has over 30 years of experience analyzing global economies and financial markets. As Chief Economist at BMO Financial Group, he oversees the macroeconomic and financial market forecasts and co-authors the firm’s weekly flagship publication, Focus. Mr. Porter manages the team that has won numerous awards including Best Forecaster for Canada by Focus Economics in 2016, top Canadian forecaster by Bloomberg and the prestigious Lawrence Klein award for forecast accuracy of the U.S. economy.

As a respected commentator on economic and financial trends, he is regularly quoted in the national press and often interviewed on radio and television.

Before joining BMO, Mr. Porter held the positions of Economist and Country Risk Analyst with other Canadian financial institutions, and also worked at the Bank of Canada.

Mr. Porter has been a member of C.D. Howe’s Monetary Policy Council since 2008 and serves on the Investment Management Committees of the Bank of Montreal’s Canada Pension Plan and Western’s Endowment Fund. He also sits on the Board of Directors of the Toronto Financial Services Alliance.

Mr. Porter, CFA, earned a Masters degree in Economics from the University of Western Ontario.

Jean-François Perrault

Jean-François Perrault joined Scotiabank on December 31, 2015 as Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist. He manages a team of Economists to support Scotiabank’s domestic and international business lines, providing Scotiabank's senior executives, partners and customers from retail to capital markets with economic perspectives, insights and forecasts.

Prior to joining Scotiabank, Jean-François held prominent roles with the federal government, the Bank of Canada, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. His educational background includes Master's and Bachelor's Degrees in Economics from the University of Ottawa.

Pattie Lovett-Reid

As CTV News’ Chief Financial Commentator, Pattie Lovett-Reid coaches viewers on how to save money, stretch their income, and get the biggest bang for their hard-earned bucks. Lovett-Reid currently provides weekday financial updates for regional CTV MORNING LIVE broadcasts across the country, and also joins CP24 weekday mornings for the market opening, followed by CTV News Channel in the early afternoon. When there is a market moving, economic or finance story worthy of commenting on, Lovett-Reid will offer commentary on CTV NATIONAL NEWS as well.

For the last decade, the highly respected Canadian financial guru has been a regular guest commentator on BNN, and other Bell Media channels. Lovett-Reid was the host of THE PATTIE LOVETT-REID SHOW on CTV News Channel and CTV, and was a weekly guest commentator on CANADA AM until the program signed off in June 2016. A sought-after speaker and commentator on wealth management, she took on the role of Senior Financial Commentator in early 2012. Lovett-Reid comes to CTV News from TD Waterhouse Canada Inc., where she served as Senior Vice-President.

Lovett-Reid is a Certified Financial Planner, co-author of several national best-selling books, and was awarded with an honorary degree in Applied Studies from Humber College in June 2010. The Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC) recognized Lovett-Reid with the 2009 Donald J. Johnston Award for her outstanding contribution to the profession of financial planning in Canada. Lovett-Reid also received the 2007 Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100™ Award in the Trailblazers and Trendsetters Category.
