The Honourable Charles Sousa

Charles Sousa is Ontario’s Minister of Finance and MPP for Mississauga South. He also serves as Vice-Chair of the Treasury Board and Management Board of Cabinet.

As Minister of Finance, Charles is championing a first-of-its-kind provincial pension plan to help ensure that Ontarians can retire with security and peace of mind. He is also responsible for the Supporting Small Businesses Act, which cut taxes for 60,000 businesses, and for negotiating a deal to establish a Cooperative Securities Regulator.

Charles has a strong record of leadership and delivering results for Ontarians.

Elected to the provincial legislature in 2007, Charles has been instrumental in securing new hospital expansions, supporting full-day kindergarten in local schools and enhancing the Lakeshore West GO train line in south Mississauga with the addition of a third track.

In December 2010, Charles’ hard work and dedication earned him a seat at the Cabinet table when he was appointed Minister of Labour. He has also served as Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, and Minister Responsible for the Pan and Parapan American Games.

Charles possesses an extensive background in the financial sector. Before entering government, he worked at RBC Financial Group for more than 20 years in commercial banking. He also owned and operated a financing company supporting small businesses. He was a member of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Toronto Board of Trade, and director of the American Chamber of Commerce.

Charles has participated in numerous charitable events for the United Way, the Rainbow Ball Foundation of Mississauga and the Community Foundation of Mississauga. He also holds an annual Turkey Drive, which benefits the Mississauga Food Bank.

Charles’ strong commitment to community service earned him the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2003. He has also received the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal, and the Order of Merit from the Republic of Portugal.

Charles grew up in south Mississauga. He and his wife Zenny are raising their three children in Clarkson.
